FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Standing at around 5'3", Jyn may appear unassuming by her height and generally slender build. Her eyes, though, tell a different story; they're often set and focused, with a (metaphorical, not literal) fire burning in them. As far as clothing is concerned, she tends to favor function and practicality over fashion, and doesn't particularly stand out with her choices. Her hair is pretty much always thrown up into a messy bun to get it out of her way, and conveys the general appearance of someone rough and tumble. As far as her demeanor is concerned, Jyn often initially trends toward wary at the very least as a default, but is often combative. It isn't impossible for her to soften, though; she cares deeply for other people, and will soften for those she perceives as being in need of help. She also tends to stop her combative nonsense if someone isn't giving her anything back.
PERSONALITY
Jyn Erso's life has been irrevocably shaped by the Empire and the struggle against it. A constant thread in her story is that she's been abandoned by nearly everyone she's ever loved — first when her mother was murdered by the Empire and her father was taken to lend his expertise to the construction of the Death Star, and then as a teenager by her adoptive father, Saw Gerrera, out of concerns that his rebel soldiers would discover her true identity — and thus forced to look out for herself. This has created an individual who has endured her trauma primarily through anger, and has had to fight not only for her right to survive, but also purely for her right to exist. She's intensely distrustful both of other people and of ideologies — especially ideologies; a cause, after all, has only ever brought her pain. Better to focus on what's in front of her: surviving through each day by whatever means necessary, fighting to make it happen, and all the better if she pisses off some powerful people along the way.But underneath all of this, there's a woman who cares deeply, and wants to leave the galaxy a better place than she'd found it; there's a woman who has a tendency to act much more selflessly than she gives herself credit for when it counts. There's a woman seeking connection, who's intensely loyal to and protective of it when she does, and who's seeking the home that she's lost. And maybe, just maybe, there's a woman who believes in hope.
BACKGROUND
The only child of scientist Galen and his wife Lyra Erso, Jyn Erso was born in a prison on the Outer Rim ice planet of Vallt; her parents had been arrested for their refusal to use their knowledge of kyber crystals to help the growing Separatist movement in a conflict with the Galactic Republic. In the waning days of the war and early days of the Empire, the Erso family lived on the capital planet of Coruscant, where Jyn's father Galen was recruited to work on a sustainable energy project with kyber crystals — which was, in all actuality, a project devoted to the development of a superweapon that would eventually come to be known as the Death Star. After realizing what, in fact, he was working on, Galen abandoned the project, and took his wife and young daughter into hiding on the remote world of Lah'mu. The Empire, though, would eventually catch up with them several years later; at that time, Lyra was murdered, Galen was taken into Empire custody, and Jyn came into the care of Saw Gerrera, a friend of her father's and the leader of a militant rebel movement known as the Partisans.Jyn spent a number of her formative years with Saw, looking up to him as a father figure and fighting with the Partisans — until one day, when she was sixteen years old, he abandoned her on the planet Tamsye Prime. For a number of years after that, Jyn was forced to strike out on her own, and was in and out of trouble with the Imperial authorities, until eventually ending up arrested and imprisoned in a labor camp on the planet of Wobani. This is where the Rebel Alliance caught up to her, freeing her because of her connections with Saw Gerrera and her father, the primary developer on the Death Star project. Though initially reluctant to help the rebels, Jyn proved instrumental in the mission on the Imperial stronghold of Scarif, which allowed the rebels to seize the plans to the Death Star. Jyn and the rest of the Rogue One crew died on Scarif, sacrificing their lives to give the Rebellion a chance to defeat the Empire.

OUT OF CHARACTER
Writing Style: i'm cool with either brackets or prose! will default to brackets, but i don't mind prose. present tense always.
Backtagging: always!
Threadhopping: totally cool when it makes sense!
Offensive Subjects: i'll let you know if anything comes up :)
IN CHARACTER
Physical Violence: jyn lives by this, so this is definitely welcome; just know that she's a brawler, and though she looks tiny, she can probably do some serious damage — and as a regular human, she's not immune from serious injury. let's plot if it gets to that point, of course!
Death: given the very recent trauma of her canon, if this comes up, i would definitely like to plot this out, but i'm open to it with plotting.
Physical Affection: i'm cool with this as a player, and you can try your luck with her ic, but unless you're one of a very select group of people, she will probably not react well.
Shipping/Sex: i'm open to it! jyn is bisexual, so she's interested in all genders.
Mental/Communion: yes
Offensive Subjects: jyn's history is very heavy with childhood trauma — specifically parental abandonment and a lot of death. additionally, her history, as well as star wars canon in general, is chock full of themes of oppression, war, and fascism. if you'd like to opt out of any of this, or the character as a whole, just let me know! i'm easy like sunday morning.
